My Grandpa

My Grandpa died at 9:15 this morning. I went in and told him about my applications arrival at Radford at 9:10-ish...I had just left the room when he died, my dad (his son) was by was side.

My Grandpa was...I'm not ready to use "was", the greatest and funninest man. He experienced so much in his 89 years. He moved as a child by horse and buggy, he worked in a dynmite factory and he was a foreman on the railroad. I loved listening to him talk about his life.

He loved to discuss politics and he too did not like President Bush. So Curtis and I would go in and watch CNN with my Grandpa and talk about world event together.

Grandpa would go to Costco and come home with a huge pumpkin pie and say "Jenni needed this" and then he and I would dive in to the deliousness.

He ate chocolate like a meal and would tease me, like he was going to run over my feet with was cane and the later his walker. When my dad got fast food earlier this week, he ask my Grandpa what he wanted and he said (as only Grandpa could) "cake!"

I love my Grandpa so much. I know I will miss him, it doesn't feel totally real yet.

creepy and true

Now about me, I called into work today so I could work on my online classes projects which are due at midnight tonight. I feel guilty calling in but I’ve never missed a day before so everything will be all right. But sometimes work is pretty fun, so I might be missing out. Example of the fun?

Crazy?

Creepy? You decide...

This happened a while back and this is not a lie…I was at the register ringing up a customer (being a cashier, nothing odd there so remove the shocked face…oh that’s your face…carry on) when some weird looking white guy came into the store, totally ignore my boss who greeted him and stood behind the customer I was assisting.

When that customer left he just started talking to me about “jet-lag” and “Not knowing what to do in San Antonio” and then he asked me what type of music I listened too. I told him I listen to pretty much everything and he said cool and then…he said something like “Well I’m in a band, maybe you’ve heard of it, Slipknot? Hi, I’m the drummer Paul Gray” I don’t listen to slipknot and so knew nothing about this “paul gray” guy so I asked for an autograph (so I could compare it to ones online.) He stayed and talked to me (while I worked…I wasn’t slacking) for a few minutes longer and than left.

I got back to work and was again ringing up a customer when he seemed to just appear right next to me, leaning over the counter, smiling at me and he said “I just had to tell you, you’re drop dead gorgeous.” I said thank you while blushing to this lovely shade of bright red. He left for real after inviting me to a concert and I was feeling good about myself all day.

I told my boss, whom he had ignored what had happened and she said “oh. He was kind of short so he probably wanted someone close to his size.” Bitchy, right?

Well I went home looked up Paul Gray and Slipknot and found out the guy was lying. He made up some big ol’ lie just to tell me I was a “gorgeous”. I was flattered, in an odd, lied to way.

I have a fake Paul Gray autograph…jealous? I wouldn’t be either. But it’s something.
